Rains down in Africa
An original Mixed Media Watercolour and Pen painting by local Tairua artist, Jean McCann
42cm x 30cm unframed
NZD 150
"I can still smell the bush before and after the rains and long for it. I can see images but always wish we could bottle the scents of Africa as so evocative and nostalgic. Smell is the most evocative of the five senses. The African bush has no shortage of odours. Some of them are subtle, almost undetectable but others are strong.
On a hot Summer's day you can see the storm clouds brewing up. The anvil-heads of the mighty cumulonimbus clouds tower above the Savannah, promising rain, then as the first rumbles of thunder are heard (and felt), a gust of chilled air comes sweeping in from the direction of the storm. There is a tangible sense of excitement in the air. The coming storm brings about a lightheartedness, a wild excitement and optimism."
