For over 40 years, Ron Starke has worked with wood, developing a deep understanding of the material that now shines through in his distinctive handcrafted sculptures. A passionate New Zealand wood sculptor, Ron has spent the past decade creating original wooden artworks that celebrate the landscapes, coastlines, and natural forms that surround us.

Over the last four years, Ron has embraced a nomadic lifestyle, travelling throughout New Zealand and carving on the road. From rugged beaches and native bush walks to dramatic sunrises and glowing sunsets, each destination influences the character and story of his work. His sculptures reflect a lifelong connection to nature and a desire to capture its beauty, movement, and spirit in timber.

Based in Oratia, West Auckland, Ron creates contemporary wood sculptures that are both organic and expressive. Every piece is carefully handcrafted, highlighting the unique grain, texture, and personality of the wood itself.
