Kay de Blaauw has been painting for over 25 years, selling her work through various outlets in the Waikato, Auckland, America, Europe, and more recently in The Coromandel. She has recently retired to Cooks Beach and looks forward to many years of happy painting and artistic endeavour in her new home. She began her career working with watercolour using landscapes, still life and life drawing models as subjects. Over time her style has evolved as she has experimented with a broad range of styles and media. Much of her latest work is abstract but is also known for fluid impressionism and skilled use of texture and colour.

The people around her have strongly encouraged and influenced her art. Her father taught her to experiment with creative art forms from an early age, friend and teacher Professor Peter Wells introduced her to watercolours; her sister (also an artist) has encouraged me to express my internal self through art; and family regularly commission artwork for their own walls!

Her passion for working with textiles has also strongly inspired her art. She has experimented with textile art, weaving and clothing design throughout her life.
